The city stands out for its Palmeral (palm grove), a unique cultural landscape of outstanding value and universal significance. It is the heart, devoted to intensive horticulture, of an irrigation system established a millennium ago by the founders of the Islamic city of Elche. The city cannot be understood – nor could its inhabitants understand themselves – without the historic palm grove that has shaped a unique urban landscape for more than a thousand years and was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000. With more than 200,000 specimens and around 50,000 more in the municipal nurseries ready to be planted, Elche’s palm grove is the largest in Europe. It also boasts a rich history, with monuments such as the Basilica of Santa María and the Puçol School Museum. Elche is also famous for the Lady of Elche. Moreover, its warm climate and its proximity to the beaches of the Costa Blanca make it an ideal destination to enjoy both nature and culture.

 visitelche.com

Essential

Elche EXPERIENCES Elche, in the Valencian Community, is known for its impressive palm grove, declared a World Heritage Site.
